The first is an introduction to the key elements of anxiety, how it shows across the lifespan and what treatment options are available and the support that is our there. The second half of the course builds on this foundation to help you understand what you can do to adapt your work to support those with anxiety and how to minimise further anxiety in the families you are working with. Engaging With Fathers
This 1.5-hour course is designed to equip professionals who work with families with the ‘know how’ and the practical strategies necessary to effectively engage and work with men as fathers. While there is consistent evidence that fathers can play an important and positive role in their children's development and in promoting gender equality, many social welfare services fail to see fathers as assets for children and young people and express challenges in engaging them effectively. This training is designed to enhance understanding and awareness of the importance of engaging with men as-fathers, as well as some practical tools and suggestions about how to engage with men more effectively and in ways that benefit children and co-parents.
Course overview
Drawing on the latest evidence about the value of father engagement and inclusion, ‘Engaging with fathers’ is designed to provide any professional working with parents both a deeper understanding of the value of involved fathers and concrete skills for how to engage and work with them more effectively, including in contexts of parental separation. The training emphasises practical application, offering suggestions for specific techniques, communication strategies, and intervention approaches that can be immediately implemented in professional practice.
Engaging with fathers is written and delivered by Anna Tarrant, Professor of Sociology at the University of Lincoln and Director of the Centre for Innovation in Fatherhood and Family Research.
