What Is The HATCAT?
How Are The Children Alignment Tools
The HATCAT is a new evidence-based package of tools for professionals and parents in the
family separation space. These tools are based on the 7 Principles For Happy Children, Happy
Families developed by Clinical Psychologist, Dr Angharad Rudkin.

The HATCAT will comprise of 3 tools:
-
The 7 Principles Happy For Happy Children, Happy Families resource
-
Reflective questions for parents
-
A unique AI chat bot (currently being developed in collaboration with Nova Law) that will answer parents’ questions about children during a separation.
All 3 tools will work together to offer parents different ways of accessing support as and when they need it; they are all tools that can be returned to time and time again by both the professional and the parent.

The How Are The Children AI Bot draws on decades of research into child wellbeing and evidence on the impact on children of separation and divorce. By translating this framework into an accessible AI support tool, it aims to provide separated parents with immediate guidance, helping them reflect on their child’s experience and make decisions that prioritise stability, empathy and resilience.

This collaboration with Nova Law (led by Alan Larkin) brings together legal expertise, psychological research and responsible AI to support families navigating separation in a more child-focused way. It does not replace professional help but does offer additional evidence-based support.

Who is the HATCAT for?
It is for all professionals working in the family separation space to use as part of their sessions with parents and/or to share with parents.
